    Mal and Lard characters

The varied characters that have appeared in previous Mal and Lard cartoon strips

There have been many characetrs that have appeared in the cartoon strip over the years. Here is a list of the many varied faces that have appeared in print.

    Mal

Characteristics : The self appointed leader of the two. The intelligent one (but not by much). Very opinionated and not afraid to speak his mind. Mal is happiest watching the world go by whilst sharing his thoughts with his best friend. His words of wisdom can often be heard on the river, and he likes to think he is knowledgeable in most things.

Distinguishing features : Two hairs at front of head, two triangles (like a diamond) on front of beak.

Likes and Dislikes : Likes correcting the wrongs in the world. Dislikes litter in the river and can often be seen arguing with swans.

    Lard

Characteristics: The less intelligent one (although not in his opinion). Doesn't seem to have a great deal of common sense but is undeterred by the fact. Will often come up with hare-brained schemes and 'million dollar' business ideas. Usually happy and smiling and can often be seen dressing up in some costume or another.

Distinguishing features : Three hairs at back of head, two triangles (points touching) on front of beak.

Likes and Dislikes : He is happiest eating bread and letting the river take him wherever it wants. Likes the idea of becoming the next Alan Sugar. Dislikes home-made bread and very soggy meals (because it sticks to his beak).

    Rod the Rat

Rod regularly appears in the cartoon strip. Sometimes working with Mal & Lard and sometimes against them. A typical sneaky little rodent yet smart and dumb in equal measures. Also famous for coming up with 'million dollar' business ideas to rival Lard's.

    Buck the Rabbit

Buck has appeared in the strip a few times over the years. Mainly when there is an Easter joke to be made. He sports a nifty quiff for some reason?

    Unnamed Frog

It's the frog with no name. Usually a background character although he was a part of the judging panel for 'River's Got talent' (but was sacked after only one series. Apparently his feedback came across as croaky).

    Red the Fox

Red appears in the strip whenever there seems to be a story about stolen shoes and gloves. Obviously a fox with a fetish for feet and fingers!

    Bernard the Turkey

Bernard seems to be a once a year at Christmas kind of character. Not his favourite time of year for obvious reasons!

    Babs the Hen

The chesty chicken. Known for her plucky, clucky personailty. Famous for her early career in film and television. She is now a regular at the bingo.

    Steven Seagull

Sports a pony tail and wears sunglasses. Part time action hero, part time singer, full time cool sea bird!

    Russell the Crow

He's know for his short temper and his fluctuating weight. Claims he's a tough old bird, but is known to be frightened of scarecrows and the Oxendon tunnel.
